Every year, several hundred head of livestock are killed by predators. Currently, there are funds amounting to thousands of dollars per head allocated to ranchers to replace their lost animals. These funds may not be adequate to completely compensate the ranchers for their losses, and are a small, but significant drain on state, local and federal funds.
Hunting, poisoning, and trapping these predators have been proven to be costly and ineffective, and have even been shown to increase reproduction rates in coyotes.
For thousands of years, flocks and herds elsewhere have been protected by Kangal dogs. This petition is to stop culling of necessary top predators, reduce predation, and save money for lost livestock by providing livestock protection dogs to ranchers on a voluntary basis.
