Employment visa quotas are currently allocated by the applicant's country of birth, regardless of current citizenship. Many highly qualified applicants holding citizenship of countries other than their birth country are unfairly disadvantaged due to this stipulation. E.g. India-born applicants who are now British, Canadian, or Australian citizens, and who left India decades ago, must wait between 9 to 12 years for their visa numbers to go current. Their spouses are not entitled to a Social Security Number during this time, thus ruling out employment although many are highly qualified and possess quals and expertise that would benefit the US economy. Effectively, this stipulation creates single income households, frustration, and lays waste much needed skills. A Win-Win solution is needed.
