There are currently over one hundred thousand applications for visas by Cuban nationals and less than one quarter of that number will be issued in the next twelve months.
Those living in Cuba, and wishing to enjoy the freedom of our land, find themselves in a dire disjunctive; wait years for an improbable visa or, enticed by the Cuban Adjustment Act, launch themselves into a perilous adventure at sea, guided only by the beacon of freedom shinning from 90 miles away.
We must repeal the abominable "wet feet/dry feet" policy that has caused so much tragedy at sea and enable an open visa waiver program for cubans wishing to join us in the U. S. A.
