Lamar Smith (R-TX) has received nearly $600,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and fossil fuel industry since joining Congress, more than any other industry. However, he was placed in charge of the House Science Committee in 2013, and according to The New Yorker (https://goo.gl/egDyn8) he has used his position to actively suppress climate change research and organizations conducting it. This represents a clear conflict of interest. We move, therefore, that Lamar Smith be removed from his position as head of the House Science Committee and replaced with a more suitable candidate.
