Replace the decimal number system with a base-12 system and make natural units the standard of measure in the U.S.

Created by C.L. on January 02, 2013

The decimal number system's only advantage is familiarity, and the ability to count using fingers and toes. Base-12 numbers allow clean division by 2, 3, 4, and 6. They can also be easily represented by ternary bytes. Ternary is the most efficient base, and has other advantages in computing (noted by Knuth and others).

Natural units are derived from universal physical constants such as the speed of light and Planck's constant. They dramatically simplify most physical laws that students must learn and eliminate arguments over arbitrary units such as the kilogram.

If we're going to switch, let's do this right so we only have to do it once. And let's lead the world! Why should we adopt a system from 18th-century France?
