Replace large public schools with small neighborhood schools that have lower costs and higher community value.

Current schools function like shopping malls; they’re huge and impersonal. Let’s bring back the intimacy of small schools. According to “A Pattern Language” by Christopher Alexander (a book about Urban Planning and Architecture published in 1977) the author talks about the advantages of mini-schools on page 423 and says, “even though everyone knows that the secret of good teaching lies in low student-teacher ratios, the schools make this one central thing impossible to get, because they waste their money being large.” He goes on to quote Charles Ruscho, director of Moboc, Mobil Open Classroom, who says, “by eliminating the building and the salaries of all those persons who do not directly work with the children, the student/teacher ratio can be reduced from something like 35/1 to 10/1.
