Replace marriage licenses with civil union licenses that are awarded regardless of gender.

Created by A.G. on May 09, 2012

Marriage is a religious institution that happens award two people a certain set of legal rights and obligations to one another. If you read that sentence a couple of times you'll realize that there is no separation between church and state on the matter. We're living in a country allows the religious beliefs of some to impede the basic civil rights of others. In the interest of civil rights and equality we need to consider replacing marriage licenses with civil union licenses. Everyone, no matter their gender, can be awarded a civil union license which provides the same legal benefits as a "marriage". The definition of marriage and the resulting ceremony can be left to the discretion of your house of worship. This preserves the "sanctity of marriage" while providing equality to all.
