to replace the motto "In God We Trust" with "Justice for All."

Created by J.U. on February 27, 2014

“In God We Trust” is, as a characterization of all U.S. citizens, literally false. “Justice for All” expresses a longstanding, bedrock American promise.

“In God We Trust” is a relic of the Red Scare. It harms our country’s international image. It justifies the prejudices of an intolerant minority. State bills, such as the one just vetoed in Arizona, show how such prejudices threaten to tear the national fabric. They should not be encouraged or promoted.

By contrast, all Americans need to be reminded that “Justice for All” has not yet achieved but that we must never cease striving for it. “Justice for All” honors the First Amendment by laying the responsibility for doing justice squarely on us, the people of the United States, through the law.
