The Obama administration has granted NCLB waivers for a number of states, but we still need research-based educational reform that relies less on rote memorization of facts and relies more on developing critical thinking skills as well as technology and science literacy. We also need to address the millions of dollars each state spends on multiple standardized tests while spending less on teacher salaries, teacher training, classroom supplies, facility improvements, and reform of standards.
By requiring teachers to cover basic facts instead of requiring teachers to educate students on how to analyze issues from all content areas, we prevent students from utilizing their abilities that humanize them. Please address the oppression in our current educational system.
