All citizens deserve to see the raw video of government events.
As providers of internet services, the cable and satellite companies should not be able to force subscribers to pay for TV service they do not need, yet C-SPAN will soon be allowing only pay TV subscribers to access all of its content. The government should end C-SPAN subsidies, special privileges and free access to expensive real estate unless any number of similar entities can receive identical access and privileges.
Instead, the federal government should directly provide free, multi-stream internet access to all government proceedings without any required involvement of for-profit entities or non-profits they control. C-SPAN or any other group can optionally choose to add value to such streams off-site.
