Mount Rushmore, one of our greatest national monuments, should feature the likeness of someone who lived life as an abolitionist, activist, and humanitarian—not a racist who took sexual advantage of women who were by law his property. Replacing the genocidal maniac Andrew Jackson on the twenty-dollar bill with Harriet Tubman is a step in the right direction, but it is not enough. It is time for America to stop honoring the legacies of men of our history who would today be seen as bigots and murderers, and instead give credit and recognition to those who dedicated their lives to humanitarian advancements and striving to achieve the true American dream of liberty and justice for all.
