The Treasury Department announced April 20th their lineup of new faces on the $5, $10, and $20 bills. While all of them are women and African Americans; certainly noble and warranted choices, none of the new faces are of Native Americans.
In addition to Native Americans being the original land holders of America, they have contributed to the U.S. in more ways than we can even imagine! Everything from the draft of the U.S Constitution being heavily influenced by the Iroquois constitution, to advanced anesthetics and surgical practices, to the Navajo code talkers enlisted for World War II, to the first settlers borrowing Native’s knowledge to survive in the land, and to Native American villages later becoming sites of great cities due to being strategically placed.
