In light of recent and recurring public portrayals of President Obama as a deity or a "Lord and Saviour", we call upon President Obama to publicly repudiate any and all such portrayals.
The worship of public leaders as gods extends back as far as recorded history. Such worship exceeds appropriate bounds of approval, appreciation, and adulation. History reveals such untempered worship to tend toward bad public policy of unlimited power for the venerated personages and repressive limitations on appropriate opportunities for loyal opposition for those governed.
Good public policy demands a clear and unmistakeable line between secular governmental leaders and sacred religious leaders.
We call upon Pres. Obama to clearly and publicly repudiate any and all portrayals of himself as a deity.
