request that the Bureau of Consumer Protection investigate Verizon's use of Unique Identifier Header (perma-cookies)

Created by J.G. on November 04, 2014

It was recently discovered that Verizon inserts a unique string of letters and numbers into individual user's web traffic over Verizon's mobile networks that can be used to identify a specific customer's device. Verizon uses these unique identifiers to sell their customer's data to interested third parties.

Verizon does not allow users to disable the unique identifiers. There is no technical way for users to avoid being identified and tracked.

Verizon's new approach to monetizing their customers raises serious civil and consumer rights issues. Please request that Bureau of Consumer Protection investigate these practices to ensure consumers' right to privacy is being respected.
