The Congressional Gold Medal serves as a means by which our nation makes it's values known to the world by honoring those who stand for them. Meriam Ibrahim underwent terrible conditions in prison and faced a death sentence for refusing to relinquish her right to religious freedom. Religious freedom is a value that we deeply cherish in the United States and Meriam Ibrahim should be awarded the Gold Medal as an important symbolic gesture. While the executive branch does not decide who receives the the award it can make it's desires known on the issue. This petition requests the executive branch to support awarding Mrs. Ibrahim with this medal.
