Request that Congress consider changing their pay to that of the average American

Created by M.S. on January 12, 2013

When it was decided that members of Congress would receive pay for their service, the purpose of that pay was to ensure that average people could serve their country for a time without risking bankruptcy. It was not intended to act as a legislator's chosen career.

We request that congresspeople take for themselves only what is paid out to the average worker, which is currently just over $42,000 per year. This provision will tie the personal interests of lawmakers directly to those of the American people, providing direct incentive for laws passed to benefit the well-being of the majority of the workforce.

If $42,000 is enough for the average American, it should be enough for his or her representative.
