The BLM manages wild horses and burros on public lands, and the agency has mismanaged the program for over 40 years. They have not even developed a comprehensive humane handling policy, and hundreds of horses die each year in their care and many others suffer other abuses.
The BLM requested an independent analysis by the National Academy of Sciences, previous analysis has been done and ignored, which cost the taxpayer millions. In evaluating the program the NSA was prevented from considering domestic livestock grazing, a critical part of a comprehensive analysis. In addition, public submissions to the NSA were rejected and all data came from the BLM. This report too is being ignored. It is time for the wild horses to be protected and the taxpayer not fund the abuses.
