The Montreal Protocol rightly limits the use of CFCs in order to protect our environment. Sadly, this protocol has also made CFCs a violation in much needed medicines.
The amount of CFCs released by medical inhalers is minute compared to CFCs released naturally from various environs around the planet.
The propellants used to replace CFCs in inhalers are simply not as efficient in delivering medication to the lungs. As an example, I can attest that a CFC inhaler can relieve my asthma symptoms in one puff, whereas the newer, non-CFC inhalers require 3-5 puffs.
Let me assure you that, when a person cannot breathe, those extra precious seconds can be the difference between life and death.
There has to be countless other ways to save the ozone layer without putting lives at risk like this.
