It is fun to think that President Obama and Sen. McConnell were to have breakfast at IHOP together -- after all, who wouldn't get along after a plate of pancakes shared? Getting to know each other a bit more harkens back to the President Reagan & Tip O'Neill days, where ideological adversaries can still be cordial and polite.
But there is something more to it. It would be nice for the two men to be in an environment where they see ordinary Americans in their daily lives. Waitresses and cooks working hard to make for a better life for they and their families, people enjoying some comfort food with their friends and family, taking a break from the increasingly more difficult rigors required to get ahead. Its a great reminder to these good men why they are in office.
