We Request that you grant the Petition for Commutation of Sentence submitted by Corey Blount.Corey is a first time non-violent drug offender who has been sentenced to life without parole.
His sentence was influenced by the now infamous 100to 1 crack to powder cocaine ratio that has since been reduced by the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010.
The Fair Sentencing Act was not made retroactive, so he is not able to reap the benefit of the new law.Corey has been incarcerated for over 15 years and he's still sentenced under severe out of date mandatory minimum sentencing laws that are no longer seen as appropriate.
Had he been sentenced today,under current law,he would have received a substantially lower sentence. Wherefore, we urge you to commute Corey Blount's sentence and grant him another chance.
