Request for Presidential Apology/Investigation for PHS Conducted Rosenwald Fund Study--treatment was toxic mercury

Created by H.N. on November 27, 2012

In 1929, the USPHS conducted the Rosenwald Fund Study involving 40,000 African-Americans of all ages & sexes. It started in Mississippi as a pilot program, but was later expanded to five additional states (TN, AL, GA, NC, VA). The patients were prescribed highly toxic doses of mercury and other chemicals for a least one year. Mercury has a congenital effect resulting in preexisting conditions/death. Tennessee deviated from other states and conducted the Study on family units. My family from Tennessee suffered from a "family disease". To date 12 of them succumbed from symptoms associated with the Study. HHS & CDC denied my request for a national apology. I would like President Obama to initiate a national apology/investigation as precedented in Tuskegee/Guatemala Studies.
