Request the U.S. regulatory bodies and leading health agencies for consensus plan to track medical radiation exposure.

Created by J.R. on May 11, 2013

We must track medical radiation doses in patient's medical records. Nearly half of the radiation to which the US population is exposed comes from medical sources such as CT scans, x-rays, and nuclear medicine. Ionizing radiation is a known carcinogen. Ironically it can diagnosis, cure, and cause cancer. Radiation is cumulative and the science is clearly showing that the earlier in life you receive it and the higher the dose; the higher the risk for cancer(especially children.) Healthcare providers must have access to their patient's dose history to weigh the risks/benefits of various treatment/diagnostics to provide the best care. The FDA, EPA, NRC, AHRQ, and NIH need to create a consensus statement to request legislation that cumulative radiation doses be tracked in the patient's chart.
