Food manufacturers are required to list certain nutritional values on food labels. However, food manufacturers have used weak government rules and guidelines to manipulate what they list on the labels, essentially negating the purpose of the label in the first place. Serving sizes are artificially made smaller than what people really eat on average and ingredients can be rounded down to zero that are just under half of a unit. A container may really contain 4 servings based on real world portions but will be labeled as having 10. That same container may have 4.9 grams of trans fat total and yet be labeled as "trans fat free" with "per serving" in little letters. This is outright fraudulent and leads to consumers not being able to make accurate decisions about what they will consume.
