As of July 1st, 2014, only 22 states mandate sex education. 37 states allow inaccuracy in any sex-ed, and only 8 states require this information to be unbiased. 27 of the 39 states that require abstinence to be covered require abstinence to be stressed, and 19 states require that importance of waiting until marriage be provided. Only 18 states require the discussion of contraceptive options, and only 2 states require that sex-ed cannot promote religious beliefs. Many states do not require that sex-ed is inclusive of other sexual orientations.
As it has been proven that teens who are given comprehensive sex-ed are more likely to make healthier choices than those given abstinence-only sex ed or no sex-ed, it is in the best interest for our country to require accurate sex-ed.
