As evidenced by the recent statements of Cong. Todd Akin, as well as many previous and current officials, our current system has fostered a fundamental disconnect between knowledge and legislation. Congressmen, Senators, Judges, and even the President are promoting, creating and interpreting legislation that effects fields they have no knowledge of.
The constituents who elect these officials need access to some indication of their capabilities and faculties, beyond their oratorical capabilities.
We propose a mandatory survey of general knowledge be administered to all candidates for elected position, both incumbent and challengers, and their answers be made available to the public, for peer review. Furthermore, a more specific survey should be required upon entry into any subcommittee.
