Currently candidates for federal office do not require a security clarence prior to taking positions of power. All one need do is be elected to have access to often highly restricted information. Before gaining ballot access or the nomination level all should be strictly vetted as to potential security risk. Background checks are common for everything from private sector employment to buying a firearm, why not for those in positions of power?
