Require all credit and debit card industries to upgrade to a secure technology that would deter identity theft.
We understand that the credit card industry has plans to transition to smart cards, but the deadline is years away. Given that smart cards have been available for decades and credit and debit card security breaches have been happening for years. We feel the time for the smart card is now.
We understand that upgrading to smart cards would be expensive. But unlike the credit card industries that see the losses as the cost of doing business, it is the American consumer that is vulnerable to identity theft and higher costs due to damaged credit ratings.
We the consumers see the smart card upgrades as a minimum that retail and banking industries can do to protect their customers.
