US Post Office vehicles alone drove around 1,247,000,000 miles in 2010 emitting approximately 1,143 megatons of CO2. This pollution could be more efficiently managed and partially eliminated through the use of electric vehicles and biofuels. Government adoption of the technology would also lead to more efficient investment in infrastructure (eg, fueling stations, smart grid tech.).
The government should take this step to reduce overall pollution in the United States, reduce dependency on fuel imports and use the decentralized nature of the Post Office to increase acceptance of the technology by consumers.
