We believe that all prisons and detention facilities should be run by either a non-profit organization or the government, banning all for-profit prisons.
A corporate prison has a mission of staying at 90 % occupancy to cover costs and increase profits, they are dependent on a constant and growing pool of prisoners. This means supporting policies that maintain and even increase the incarceration rate. This defeats any goal of rehabilitation. In other words, a more humane criminal justice and immigration detention system threatens the very existence of these companies.
