According to a 2011 Whitehouse.gov post, the federal gov't owns 1.2 million properties across the US. If the General Services Agency installed solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and solar hot water (thermal) panels on all 1.2 million of those roofs, and painted the roofs white, the electricity offset for power, the energy offset for heating water, and reductions in the "heat island" effect would all equate to millions, if not billions, of taxpayer dollars saved. Additionally, implementing this program would create thousands of jobs for solar installers and contractors.
