require that all four verses of the Star Spangled banner be sung at government events

Created by E.G. on June 07, 2013

The US code clearly establishes that the "Star Spangled Banner is our national anthem (1), but with only one verse regularly sung, that law is being flaunted. Francis Scott Key wrote four beautiful verses that serve as a conversation between Key and the doctor he had just rescued as they looked at Fort McHenry. The first verse is a question, the second an answer. The third notes how the US has triumphed over the British and the fourth looks to the future. By singing only one verse of the Star Spangled Banner, we have destroyed the beauty of Key's poetry. This petition is to require at all official US government events where the national anthem is sung (e.g. the presidential inauguration), that all four verses be sung.
