Require All High School Students to Take Two Years of Arts Courses

Created by M.A. on October 29, 2013

We would like all secondary schools to require students to take two arts courses from the disciplines of their choice. We feel as through an exposure to the arts helps students to develop the tools to utilize both sides of their brain. We argue that two courses should be required because we fear exposure to only one course does not give students the time they need to truly appreciate things they can learn from being involved in the arts. We understand that this would require school districts to budget more money to the arts, but we feel like it is necessary for the betterment of student participation and character development. There are studies that show involvement in the arts have numerous impacts on students, including but not limited to both academic achievement and social advancement
