We, the undersigned, hereby respectfully request President Obama issue an Executive Order instructing the Department of State to assign the status of refugee and grant asylum to all children who have crossed or will cross the US-Mexican border, as defined and recognized by the United Nations per the 1984 Cartagena Declaration which states:
"Persons who flee their countries because their lives, safety or freedom have been threatened by generalised violence, foreign aggression, internal conflicts, massive violation of human rights or other circumstances which have seriously disturbed public order."
These are children for crying out loud. Is this the kind of country we want to become where we are so heartless that we turn away innocent children in need?
