Require all Internet Service Providers to provide fiber optic gigabit Internet service to all Americans by 2014

The Internet is one of the most important inventions that everyone should have access to in order to receive and share information. Unfortunately, we Americans cannot fully enjoy the wonders of the Internet due to slow, unreliable, and expensive connections from Internet Service Providers. Many ISPs don't want to provide high speed, reliable Internet. Although Google has taken steps to provide one gigabit Internet service to consumers, other ISPs have no desire to provide similar service to Amercians. Also, not only are other countries such as Japan and Israel have faster Internet than the US, but also the US, where the Internet was first developed, ranks number 14 with the fastest Internet in the world. Such poor Internet service not only stifles our economy, but also stifle innovation.
