require all law enforcement officers receive training on how to humanely interact with and control common pet animals.

Created by R.T. on July 24, 2014

Given the rash of pets, mainly dogs, killed by law enforcement officers in the last few years, changes in policies and officer education need to be made.

Policies need to be in place to require humane treatment for animals with whom police officer interact. Limits need to be set on the use of lethal force and the consequences for cruelty on the part of officers need to be spelled out.

Further, law enforcement agencies/ departments need to require continuing animal safety education for the sake of animals, the public and officers.
