to require that all lawmakers who contribute to the passing of new legislation have to personally follow the same rules.

It is wrong that the people serving our country put into law changes that they personally do not have to follow themselves. An example is the Affordable Care Act. The politician who wrote and passed this should also be required to get health care under the same terms as the other citizens of this country. Social Security and Medicare are other examples. If you are not willing to live with the rule change then you have no business having the citizens who you serve have a different set of rules.
The politicians are creating a special class for themselves and are in turn distancing themselves from the voters of this country.
