require all members of Congress to take the Food Stamp Challenge.

Created by G.D. on June 14, 2013

The Congressional SNAP Challenge calls upon government officials to live off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps) for one week (1). The challenge, most recently taken by 26 members of Congress—notably, all Democrats (2)—puts into perspective what "dependency" and "entitlement" really mean to the nearly 50 million people (3) who rely on the $4.50 a day (1) allotment to get by. Requiring all Congresspeople and Senators to take the challenge would help them understand what proposed cuts, such as the farm bill recently approved by the Senate and headed to Congress (4), mean to the nearly 2 million (4) who would lose their assistance.
