We the people do hereby petition our government to grant financial reimbursement, by the counties of conviction, to those who have lost years of their lives to wrongful convictions and to recognize them as crime victims
The recent flood of exonerations by DNA analysis across our nation is proof that malicious overzealousness by prosecutors and police as well as the interest in political position of judges are destroying the integrity of our justice system as a whole and thereby weakening our social structure.
Those who have been exonerated face further hardships after release because of poverty and do not have the ability to bring those responsible for their convictions to justice .
There are currently 28 states which do not compensate those wrongfully convicted.
