President of the United States is the most important government position in this country. It is imperative that we understand our candidates' finances as they reflect their values, their connections (foreign and domestic) and possible conflicts of interest. Releasing tax returns has been de facto policy probably since George Romney, but it is time to make it actual policy. Candidates should not have the option of hiding this information from the public.
