Thomas Jefferson said, "A nation's best defense is an educated citizenry". The 1st amendment prohibits the making of any law which infringes on the freedom of the press. The completeness and accuracy of news on the important and complex issues of our day are constrained by profitability demands on the information provider. This frequently leaves the voting citizenry insufficiently or incorrectly informed on issues of concern to them.
I am proposing that all electronic and print media set aside broadcast time and print space respectively to cite references for the facts they are reporting, and provide links to independent, nonpartisan, licensed fact-checking websites.
In concept, this is similar to the Surgeon General's warning on tobacco products. This is not an infringement.
