Being a parent of a child with special needs it's becoming apparent that today's public schools are not equipped to manage the growing number of children diagnosed with a mentally challenging ailment. While catering to the "normal" children, individuals like my 8 year old son (who's been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism) is denied opportunity to advance his education while learning to manage his behaviors. The Autism issue alone is becoming an epidemic that our Government is ignoring, leaving the issue to outside local and national organizations (mostly non-profits) to manage. They can't do it by themselves. We need not only a more vocal eye on bringing awareness to this issue but also a means to have the schools produce a "report card" showing their ability to provide services.
