Local law enforcement is the closest that most American citizens come to their government, for good or for ill. For decades, but most recently in the cases of Ferguson Missouri, North Charleston South Carolina, and Baltimore, Maryland, police misconduct has resulted in millions of Americans losing faith in their government.
It would be prudent to require that all future American police officers complete a minimum of a four year college degree with Federal minimum standards for education, psychological, and intelligence testing before they are given a badge and gun. Our local police officers across the nation are given the power of life and liberty over all American citizens, and it makes no sense that such requirements haven't been implemented. We deserve well trained local police.
