Require all states to have a prescription drug monitoring program.

Created by J.S. on November 05, 2014

Prescription drug abuse is soaring in the US. Most states use a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program which is a federal database that monitors how physicians write prescriptions, as well as how and who they are to. This is to ensure physicians aren't irresponsibly prescribing medication and that patients arent receiving multiple prescriptions from different physicians. Currently, Missouri is the only state without a PDMP and abuse levels in Missouri are that much higher. If an amendment was put in place to require each state to use and enforce a PDMP, I believe abuse rates would significantly decrease due to medications not being as easy to obtain. As well as, prescription drug related crimes and prescription drug related deaths. Also costs of health care would decrease.
