knowing a second language is a skill that is very valuable in our times of globalization. In todays world it is compulsory in most western countries to not only learn but master a second language. In Europe it is estimated that 60% of the population is fluently bilingual and 30% are fluently trilingual, this is a major advantage in the world market that Americans don't posses. in comparison only 9% of americans are fluent in a second language other then English. Teaching a foreign language wont hinder the status of English, it will however better prepare our kids for the global economy we live in. With 230 million English speakers in the US, we are the largest English speaking population in the world, its not going anywhere.
