Currently tax-exempt religious organizations do not have to disclose the use or purpose of their tax-exempt income to the public. This lack of transparency allows for religious institutions to keep their spending private, without any accountability to the public, who provides the majority of their tax-exempt income.
We ask that the government mandate that all religious groups claiming tax-exempt status must disclose annual financial statements to the general public, without any restrictions or membership conditions beforehand.
With this requirement, every corrupt and/or self-profiting organization will be exposed to the public, and citizens will then have full access to knowledge of where their contributions would go within a tax-exempt institution before they make any donation.
