According to SafeKids, a child dies from a television tipping over every 3 weeks. Thousands more visit the emergency room each year due to falling televisions. Flat screens may be lighter than their predecessors but the average television is still heavy enough to cause injury to a small child. SafeKids also claims that nearly half of parents surveyed did not secure televisions and other furniture to prevent tip-overs. I believe that the most effective way to encourage parents to take this step to protect their children is to include safety devices such as tethers or wall mounting kits with the televisions.
