Require that all United States elections utilize open source voting management software.

Created by D.E. on March 26, 2016

The use of vulnerable closed-source software on voting machines has led to an electorate that no longer trusts the voting process.

Many are calling for hand votes and paper voting to try to combat the hackability of these closed Source systems.

This is misguided. Hand votes are easy to suppress as well, as well as being inefficient and difficult to track (ex. Missing provisional ballots, hanging Chads) physical voting is a backwards maneuver.

I petition to require US elections to be run on an open source voter management system. This would create transparency and accountability, making insertion of malicious code initially difficult and long-term unlikely. It would also increase the efficiency of the voting process. Lastly, it can offer other countries a roadmap to better elections.
