Require any financial contributions made to House or Senate members to be publicly disclosed.

Created by C.D. on September 22, 2011

As the approval ratings of Congress continue to plummet and government action grinds to a halt, it is clear that the legislative branch of the United States Government is broken.

We petition Barack Obama to make mandatory the disclosure of any financial contributions made to members of congress. Corporate lobbying has changed Congress from a representation of the peoples' opinions to a representation of the interests of big businesses.

Requiring disclosure of contributions will in no way inhibit free speech. Congressmen can continue to accept contributions from any source, but there will finally be accountability on whether or not those contributions impact the way they vote on issues. This accountability is necessary to ensure the continued functioning of Congress.
