We're all sick and tired of "negative" or "attack" ads which are directed towards an opposing political candidate, because they are usually filled with half-truths, wild exaggerations, and hyperbole.
We should require that producers of any "negative" advertisements (those which tell the viewer the reasons why you shouldn't vote for someone), be required to purchase equal advertising time for the candidate to whom the negative ad is directed, to provide an immediate rebuttal to the specific claims in the original advertisement.
For TV and radio ads, this rebuttal would be played immediately following the original ad. For print advertising, it would be placed on the same page, adjoining the original ad.
If enacted, negative ads would likely disappear or at least become more truthful.
