Partisan and lobbyist-influenced representatives and senators in oversight or committee positions is hurting our country. Particularly in areas where it is crucial for them to be non-partisan and independent, such as education, science, and the economy.
Non-partisan and independent examples are the Federal Reserve and the Supreme Court. Contrary examples are the FCC and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
People appointed to these types of positions should be non-partisan and come from the actual industries involved, instead of being career politicians or people who will soon be looking for a job based on connections instead of merit. Any candidates must be considered experts in the relevant field(s) and be subject to a vote-of-no-confidence by recognized expert peers.
